How it Works

How VesselScout Works

VesselScout supports a simple process: search, track, examine, and reflect.

The structure is intentionally limited. Each part supports a specific stage of buying without adding unnecessary complexity.

1. Search (Scouts)

Searches in VesselScout are called Scouts. A Scout is simply a structured search filtered by the characteristics that matter to you.

Search results are temporary within a browsing session. You can return to results while you are exploring. If a boat stands out, it can be added to your Short List for further consideration.

2. Short List

The Short List is a working list of vessels that merit closer review.

It is not a final decision list. It exists to reduce friction while comparing candidates. From here, you can revisit vessel details and, when appropriate, evaluate a boat more formally.

3. Vessel Details

Each listing presents structured information about layout, systems, and configuration to support comparison.

Details are meant to make differences visible — not to persuade. They provide a consistent format for evaluating tradeoffs across vessels.

4. Evaluate

Evaluate is an action applied to a specific vessel. It allows you to consider how well a boat aligns with your stated preferences and intended use.

Evaluation does not replace inspection or survey. It is a structured way to reflect on suitability before committing to the next stage.

5. Understanding Fit

Understanding Fit provides background on how use patterns, storage, climate, and system complexity affect ownership experience.

These pages are optional. They exist to provide context for those who want to think more deeply about alignment and tradeoffs.

6. Resources

The Resources section provides directories related to brokers, surveyors, training, and technical standards.

Entries are not ranked or endorsed. The purpose is reference, not recommendation.

7. Account

Your account allows you to:

  • Maintain preferences (boat profiles you are searching for)
  • Manage security settings
  • Manage personal listings if you are selling a vessel
  • Review payments when applicable

The account area supports identity and listing management. It does not control search or Short List activity.
